The Allegro league provided us with the first competitive chess of 2020.
We continued the trend of changing the team each month. This time, only one change: Jamie replacing Maurice on bottom board. The rest of the lineup was Bryan, Doug and Iain.
The night didn’t start well – a 4-0 drubbing by Edinburgh 1. In November, we lost 4-0 to Edinburgh 2, so I guess we should look at the positives… they don’t have a 3rd team.
But the lads bounced back in round 8 and beat reigning champions, Dragons B, 3.5-0.5.
So, on the night, a slight deficit – 3.5-4.5 – which puts us on exactly 50% in the competition (14:14). But that doesn’t include our walkover against Sandy Bells. So, if my maths is right, it should mean we’re on 17 points.
