On Thursday, the first team headed off to Alva Street to play yet another one of our key rivals. This time it was Edinburgh 4.
In a division where everyone seems to be able to beat anyone else, coming away with a win would have given us a nice cushion over them.
Things got off to a good start, with Mike securing a win on top board against Calum McGillivray.
But losses for Shahul and Iain meant we were 2-1 down at the halfway stage.
Maurice was a piece up in an ending, but unfortunately, the only other material on the board were the kings, so that game was a draw.
A loss for Doug sealed our fate. So, even though David G beat an opponent rated 165 points higher, it didn’t change the result.
A frustrating 2.5-3.5 loss.
That brings Edinburgh 4 back into the title race. And it’s good news for Bank of Scotland, whose only dropped points are their loss to us.
But we’re still in the hunt – along with Edinburgh 5 and University. So headed into February, it’s still a 5 horse race in a division of 10 teams.
